Within the framework of the 39th Geotechnical Engineering Conference in Leipzig, Professor Martin Ziegler, Dr.-Ing., was elected an honorary member of the German Geotechnical Society (DGGT). With this special honour, the DGGT recognises his long-standing and outstanding contributions to geotechnical engineering, as well as his exceptional commitment to the further development of the discipline at both national and international levels.
Particular mention must be made of his extensive work in the fields of geosynthetics and European standardisation. In addition to his long-standing involvement on the DGGT Executive Board, Martin Ziegler played a decisive role in shaping the technical focus and development of the ‘Plastics in Geotechnical Engineering’ technical section for more than two decades as its chair. In this role, he was particularly committed to the further development and proper application of geosynthetics, as well as to the transfer of knowledge between science and practice.
Martin Ziegler was also actively involved in geotechnical engineering at an international level. For twelve years, he had been a member of the Council of the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS), thereby contributing to the international networking and further development of the discipline.
His appointment as an honorary member of the DGGT represents a special recognition of this long-standing commitment and his services to the geotechnical community.
We warmly congratulate Martin Ziegler on this special and well-deserved honour!
