ZAI at the 15th VDEI Civil Engineering
Conference in Radebeul

February 2026

On 11 and 12 February 2026, the 15th Civil Engineering Conference of the Association of German Railway Engineers (VDEI) took place in Radebeul near Dresden. The venue was the TSW – the Conference Centre of Saxon Industry – located in a historic locomotive shed, providing an atmospheric setting for a specialist conference dedicated to railway construction.

More than 250 experts representing the fields of planning, civil engineering, and construction attended the two-day event to exchange views on current developments in construction in the railway sector. In addition to an accompanying technical exhibition, the conference programme featured well-founded presentations on the following topics:

  • Updates and amendments to technical standards and regulations
  • Environmental aspects
  • Pipe jacking and pipe rehabilitation
  • Innovative construction methods
  • Planning at the interface of environmental requirements and infrastructure needs

Prof. Martin Ziegler from ZAI had the honour of opening the first session with his presentation entitled “Overview of the New Regulations in Eurocode 7”.

The topic attracted considerable interest, as it is becoming increasingly relevant. The publication of the new Eurocodes is expected within the next one to two years. Following a transition period, the new standards will replace the current generation of regulations and will therefore have a significant impact on planning and execution in civil engineering.

The conference once again demonstrated the importance of both professional dialogue and early engagement with upcoming changes to technical standards for the industry.
